There are two kinds of posts that I would like to subscribe to: one is to questions that I myself ask (it would be nice to know when answers come in), and the other is questions that other people have asked, which happen to be very interesting. Of course, it's possible to bookmark them and go back and check them, but I was wondering whether there was any way to get email notifications of such updates?

Why don't you use RSS?

This link will give you the RSS feed for the type forum for example: http://www.biostars.org/feeds/type/forum/

Good suggestion, I'll give that a shot. Thanks!

Also I want to expand on this, originally we did not have this feature because it wasn't clear to us what the best way to add email notifications were.

Unexpectedly having email notification is a feature that needs a second layer of specialized infrastructure (message broker and a storage). Emails need to be sent asynchronously and must be decoupled from the website operation otherwise any hickup in sending emails would propagate over the entire website.

Good news is that we do have a nice solution now worked out so it is only a matter of time until we add this feature.

Glad to hear that it's something that's being worked on.

Has e-mail notification been implemented? I would really like this feature as well.
