I was curious whether there is any computational method to differentiate whole genome and segmental duplication?

Could you clarify your question a bit?

Hi Sean! Actually there are 4 different way by which gene can be duplicated - transposition, tandem, segmental and whole genome duplication. so I was interested to know if we can differentiate whether a gene was duplicated through segmental or whole genome duplication.

So, what data are you analyzing? Do you have WGS data? Or is your question more general?

Actually it's easy to differentiate tandem and WGD/segmental duplication because of the location of of duplicated genes but i don't know the way to differentiate whether two genes are product of WGD or segmental?

Well it would depend on the study of other genes, wouldn't it? If it's segmental duplication, that just the couple of genes are going to be duplicated.
