HI guys, I need a tool able to plot my genetic network dynamically for a talk presentation. In other words I need a sort of video able to rotate and so move the network while running. I searched around but only static representations are available. The only solution is to run the software used to plot the network but i would like not to open the software, load the data and run the rotation. I just would like to start the video (Ex .avi) and then show the rotation of my net.

Any suggestion about?

Thanks a lot!!!

Maybe, if you need a quick solution because your presentation is soon, recording a screen cast might be ok. On Mac you can use Quicktime for example.

Welcome to Biostar. So, basically you are looking for a tool to record a video of a network? Or do you want also to be able to interact with the video during the presentation?

I just would like to produce a network of interacting genes (for ex. with Cytoscape) and then save for ex with .avi or other, then add the video on my presentation and finally during the presentation click on the run bottom and the video will start. Basically the video will move around the net allowing to visualize it at 360 degree. The problem is that Cytoscape and other sw produce static nets. You can move the net using the mouse but still using the sw. During my presentation I can not open the sw load the net and so on.Just this.

I've used http://www.screenr.com/ before to capture workflows on a desktop. It is cross-platform and you can publish the video to youtube, download it, whatever.

A quick and dirty solution is to use a tool to record your desktop. You can use it to record anything you are doing on your screen - including any network visualization in Cytoscape.

Tools to record desktop in Linux:

For windows:

As an alternative, you may do your presentation with impress.js (or even write it with LaTeX or HTML), and then embed a Cytoscape.js network. This way, you will be able to move the network during the presentation.

Yes, but not Record My Desktop and Istanbul or Netflux with Cytoscape. Of course Quicktime it's ok!
