Conferences On Genomics?

I was just wondering, are there any good conferences/workshops on learning the basics of genomics? Maybe a little molecular evolution? My lab is getting into genomics, and I am going to set them up with Galaxy... but many people don't have a solid foundation in genomics (even though they are really good at their specialties, it's not usually genomics).

We are located in Atlanta, USA, and so something in say, Australia, might not be feasible. Best case scenario is if someone from Emory University has a workshop on Galaxy/genomics :)

I think the best case scenario you mentioned is a reality because Dave Clements, who is in charge of outreach and training for the Galaxy project, is at Emory. You could always check on the Galaxy website for training materials, but I would just email Dave with your questions, he is very nice. For general courses on genomics, I recommend the CSHL courses because I have heard good things from past attendees and instructors (though, I've never attended myself). I have taken several courses at the SISG in Seattle and I can highly recommend those. Keep in mind you are coming on the deadline for many late summer or Fall courses.

Hi Lee,

If you are looking for conferences, GenomeWeb has a good list:

I'm not as familar with workshops, but there are lots of resources on-line (and I'm sure you know of good collaborators at Emory and GT, who could either assist with training or at least share lecture slides).

For example, here are a couple popular resources for Galaxy:

http://wiki.galaxyproject.org/Learn/Screencasts

http://www.openhelix.com/cgi/tutorialInfo.cgi?id=82 (this one requires a subscription, but a lot of other ones do not).

Good luck!

Best, Charles

If you are still looking, here is a list of bioinformatics workshops:
