We are currently in search for a Bioinformatician to join our team in Herndon, VA. This is a full-time employee position with Digicon Corporation.

Position Description:

Digicon is looking for a highly motivated individual who is ready to step into the Bioinformatics field. Digicon is a provider of tools and environments for bioinformatics-related research for the Government. As Staff Bioinformatician, you will provide support to both the Digicon product development team and to the scientific customers working in Bioinformatics who are using or plan to use the Digicon bioinformatics toolset.   Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): serve as a liaison between the Digicon technical staff and science-oriented customers; provide your expertise on current and future Digicon offerings as they relate to Bioinformatics; perform pre-sales scientific-oriented support for Digicon bioinformatics products; provide post-sales support for customers new to NextGen Sequencing (NGS) so that they learn the products and how to use them for research; and develop standard processing workflows to be offered as part of Digicon’s product offerings.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

  • Understanding of NextGen Sequencing environments, data and pipelines
  • Understanding of and/or experience with Galaxy suite of products
  • Proficiency in working with common biological databases
  • Proficiency with statistical data analysis tools commonly used in bioinformatics
  • Experience with MySQL server and creating database backend environments and frontend web applications
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Background in Genetics
  • Programming experience, specifically in developing bioinformatic tools (Perl, Python, C/C++, etc.)
  • Experience working in a Linux-based environment
  • Experience in PERL/PYTHON or Shell scripting; C/C++ or JAVA programming languages; and working with UNIX-based environments
  • Prior work experience in handling high-throughput biological datasets and in bioinformatic data analyses is strongly preferred

Education/Training/Certifications Required:

  • B.S. or better in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or related field
