(Sorry if this isn't really a bioinformatics question, but I think there are knowledgeable people here at BioStar in this area.)

We're looking for a solution for doing RNA-Seq from precious samples (Trizol-extracted, silica-column-cleaned total RNA from plant material) where less than 1 µg of total RNA is available and there is no chance of ever getting more material. 1 µg total RNA is well below most of the recommendations for library preparations we've seen.

Do you have any suggestions regarding protocols or kits that have worked well before with low amounts of input RNA?

In particular, does anyone have experience with NuGen's Ovation RNA-Seq kit for RNA-Seq with SOLiD 4? Are there any pitfalls? Is there anything to look out for specifically? Do the resulting data look good (any bias?) or are there any problems?
