How to edit a VCF file in python

I have an edit VCF function in R and I’m wondering how I could port or rewrite it into python. I’m having trouble figuring out how it works

how can we answer without knowing what you're trying to do ?

I am an old school bioinformatician, I would simply re-write the whole VCF each time I change anything
