I have a Health Scientist (Informatics), GS-0601-13, Activity Lead Position available in my team that opens for applications on Monday Aug 15. The bioinformatician or computational biologist will lead development and deployment of public health informatics and bioinformatics tools and systems to automate integration, analysis, and visualization of laboratory and epidemiologic data for HIV cluster detection and response, which is a key pillar of the national plan to end the HIV Epidemic by 2030. The incumbent will apply the new tools to analyze several datasets from various studies, outbreaks, and national surveillance to identify transmission clusters requiring targeted interventions. This work is essential to advance the Federal and CDC mission to prevent disease and develop sound public health policies to eliminate HIV transmission.

One bioinformatics tool developed by my team that the position will support development and maintenance of is MicrobeTrace (https://github.com/CDCgov/MicrobeTrace/wiki). Usage of MicrobeTrace continues to grow with now over 9,000 unique global users investigating outbreaks of many pathogens besides HIV, including SARS-CoV-2, monkeypox, TB, STDs, hepatitis C virus, and food-borne diseases.

We are also developing a platform called the Microbial Transmission Network Analytic Platform (MTNAP) to automate detection, characterization, and reporting of HIV clusters and outbreaks using national HIV molecular and epidemiologic data.

If you are interested in leading this highly creative, agile and productive activity in my team please apply for the position using the links below noting the closing date. Alternatively, if you know of someone who may be interested in applying for the position please share this email with them.

Thanks!
