What You Will Do:
The HIV Databases at LANL (https://hiv.lanl.gov/) are a global resource for HIV/AIDS research funded by the NIH/NIAID. We provide curated HIV genetic sequences & immunological data along with analysis tools.
We seek a motivated, skilled, and independent computer programmer with experience in web interfaces to develop and maintain database and bioinformatics tools and applications. The primary responsibility of the position will be sustaining & significantly improving the data entry system for the HIV Molecular Immunology Database. This meaningful work has already impacted the lives of tens of millions of people living with HIV.
The candidate will have excellent communication skills and be part of a team of biologists and programmers in an academic research environment. This is a full-time position for a minimum of two to three years
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Mastery of one or more programming languages. Ability and willingness to learn and use languages in order to maintain and extend existing code.
- Proficiency with relational databases, database programming, and relational calculus; PostgreSQL for web-based applications preferred.
- Experience with the software development process including version control, documentation, testing, and continuous integration.
- Experience with data validation and security.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 2 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
- Experience in programming within a Linux operating system.
- Experience with software containers in Linux.
- Background knowledge of immunology and molecular biology.
- Proficiency with probability and statistics.
- Experience using Perl. Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.
