Motifs and ELM database

Hello everyone,

I used the Eukaryotic Linear Motifs database (ELM) to determine possible motifs of my target proteins. I have two questions:

  1. Do you know a better database/website for finding possible motifs and domains of proteins?

  2. In ELM database there was a column showed "Probability". I do not understand the meaning of Probability in this context! Since when I added all the Probability of each predicted motif, the final accumulated result did not become 1! In addition, the probability of each predicted motif was unusually low. For example, my protein's highest probability of one motif was 4.23e-0.2! it is very low.

Could you please help me and answer my questions? Thank you in advance, Best regards, Mohammad

MEME is a tool for discovering motifs of protein or DNA sequence.

Probability in this case is most likely a p-value, which is a probability that the observed similarity of the detected motif with your sequence occurred by chance. Low p-values are better.
