The Senior Bioinformatician role is based in the Department of Infection at the Royal London Hospital and is primarily to support two projects focusing on the implementation and delivery of a fully integrated pathogen sequencing service. This will include, but is not limited to, whole genome sequencing of bacteria and viruses to detect genotypic antimicrobial and antiviral resistance, genotyping, molecular epidemiology to investigate pathogen cross-transmission and pathogen detection using metagenomics to diagnose infection. The projects are funded by Bart’s Charity and the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR). The post holder will also provide expert bioinformatic support and knowledge to existing Clinical Microbiology and Virology molecular services that use sequencing technologies to detect and/or characterise pathogens from clinical samples. The role would suit both individuals already working in a clinical environment or those currently in academic roles.
