Searching plenty studies about genomics, I found that PCA method is used for population genomics of human. I also want to gather number of fungi genomes and infer ancestry and era of evolution of them. But I could barely found PCA method applied in fungi or algae. Is there reason they don't use it? Or is it because inferring ancestry of fungi is not that important then animals?

PCA would be better to visualize the genetic variation in hundreds or thousands of individuals in a species of fungi rather than a taxa of a few different fungal species, which is what people normally collect.

I'm going to compare over 100 different fungal strains but same species. Then may be this approaching fits well, right?
