Hello,

Just a random question suddenly pop out in my mind: Is there a good NGS technique for speciation of insecta? Can 18S rRNA amplicon sequencing be a good technique to use? Are the database (e.g, silva, etc) comprehensive enough for the analysis?

Please feel free to comment and advise. Thank you very much!

Best regards.

I am sure there's a lot of litterature on the topic. Maybe this review could be a good starting point: Molecular markers a valuable tools for species identification of insects: areview, Ann. Entomol., 38 (01-02): 1-20 (2020)

Hi Jean,

Thanks for your advice. Seems DNA barcoding targeting mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) is the standard approach for speciation of insects.
