Hi everyone. Can I know how to identify gene symbols from SPOT_ID in GEO2R?

This is what GEO platform document says about SPOT_ID:

SPOT_ID Alternative spot identifier - use only when no identifier or sequence tracking information is available. This column is useful for designating control and empty features.

Please provide the GEO platform ID that you are working with if you are asking about specific identifiers.

Hi GenoMax.

Here are the few GEO platform ID that I am working with which only generate SPOT_ID without any gene symbol information:

  • GPL23159
  • GPL23976
  • GPL21145

Looks like these are Illumina Infinium arrays. You can get their annotation from Illumina.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/geo/query/acc.cgi?acc=GPL23159 this platform has gene names available if you look in the table.
