I want to limit the use of RAM for the clustalo on my Ubunutu. I have been looking for ways to do this. Ulimit allows to use a limitation only for the whole user, while rlimit restricts only individual processes. Is there any way to do this?

Can you specify why you are looking to do this? If you do not have enough RAM then you probably won't be able to do the clustal run on this machine anyway.

Hello, thank you for responding to the problem!

My work computer has 32GB of RAM. I was running an alignment for a 5000 genome monkey pox file from Gisaid weighing 994 MB. Then it popped up in the bios, where an error was displayed related to the hard drive. After checking the hard drive, I was convinced that it was not the problem. Then I found information that the error may also be related to the RAM and most likely it was overloaded.
