Hello everyone, I am working with Nanopore DRS datasets. The raw files and intermediate files are large and i need to store it as a backup.
can i store my raw "pod5" files on SRA database?
You may want to contact SRA help desk to see if they will accept POD5 files (they are a newish format and NCBI guidelines posted below may not be updated). SRA is not meant to be a site for backing up intermediate sequencing data though it can partly act as one (e.g. BAM's from 10x etc).
That said POD5 files would only be needed if someone was going to recall the bases, which would seem unlikely from a public submission like yours. Submit super accuracy fastq calls (which can be your backup) and you are likely to end up with a backup of the data that is as good as it is going to get.
The SRA is not a cheap way to make your personal backups. That having said, simply buy a large external drive. They're super cost effective these days, then backup data there.
