I am trying to calculate the DI-GM(A food index similar to HEI, MEDI index ....) based on the article below: "From a review of 106 articles, 14 foods or nutrients were identified as components of the DI-GM, including fermented dairy, chickpeas, soybean, whole grains, fiber, cranberries, avocados, broccoli, coffee, and green tea as beneficial components, and red meat, processed meat, refined grains, and high-fat diet (more than 40% of energy from fat) as unfavorable components."
However, while exploring the dietary module of the NHANES database, I have encountered difficulties in locating corresponding food items such as avocados and broccoli. Despite thorough searching, I haven't been able to find clear matches for these foods.
Should I extract USDA food codes from the Individual Foods file and convert them into the relevant food items for my calculations? Is there a standard approach for mapping specific foods from NHANES dietary data to the components of DI-GM?
Any guidance or references would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
