Recently, we had a chat about the EDAM Ontology in my group. Would it be possible and beneficial to integrate the ontology with web-sites or blogs on bioinformatics, genomics, sequencing such as BioStar?
"EDAM (EMBRACE Data and Methods) is an ontology of common bioinformatics operations, topics, types of data including identifiers, and formats." (http://edamontology.org/)
The EDAM ontology can be browsed from the bioportal.bioontologies website, and downloaded from sourceforge. The ontology could be used to populate BioStar's tagging system and could provide a large number of relevant terms, certainly the need to create new tags could be deminished.
Currently, EDAM concepts are being used by the EMBOSS tools, and also by SeqAnswers to tag posts.
One might as well include other relevant ontologies.
