Hi all,

I’m Haziq, a gap-year BSc Biochemistry student interested in computational biology and bioinformatics, with a long-term goal of pursuing a PhD in the field. Over the past year, I’ve been learning transcriptomics and gaining practical experience by analyzing public datasets.

I’ve gained experience in:

  • Scanpy: Preprocessing and analyzing bulk and single-cell RNA-seq datasets
  • Batch correction & integration: Using scVI-tools to handle dataset variability
  • Cell type annotation: Using CellTypist and ScanVI
  • Intercellular communication analysis: Investigating cell-cell interactions with CellPhoneDB
  • Gene set enrichment analysis: Using GSEApy for pathway insights
  • Trajectory inference: Inferring cell differentiation using RNA velocity (scVelo, DeepVelo, UniTVelo), PAGA, and CytoTRACE
  • Spatial transcriptomics: Visium 10x
  • Machine Learning/Deep Learning: Experience with scikit-learn and PyTorch

Recently, I’ve worked on HGSOC tumor scRNA-seq datasets, validating biomarkers, analyzing enriched pathways, and investigating cell-cell interactions in the tumor microenvironment. I also developed a cell potency estimation framework that reconstructs the scalar potential landscape of differentiation using RNA velocity and neural networks, providing insights into transcriptional dynamics and cell fate decisions. Right now, I’m working on a longitudinal NASH liver immune cell dataset (previously unannotated), trying to identify key signaling pathways and cell populations driving disease progression.

While this would be a volunteer/unpaid role, I’m happy to commit full-time hours in exchange for mentorship, experience, and the opportunity to contribute to publications. I’m also open to learning and working in other related fields such as genomics, epigenomics, and metabolomics.

I have extensive experience with Python but am also open to working with R if needed. For remote work, I have a high-speed custom PC with an NVIDIA RTX GPU.

I’m open to both remote and onsite (London/Cambridge) roles. If you know of any opportunities, I’d love to connect. Feel free to reach out via haziq.muhammad.iot@gmail.com or DM me here.

Looking forward to learning and collaborating!

Best, Haziq

Follow-up because I haven’t received any responses yet.

I just wanted to clarify: I don’t need a formal internship. If you’re a PhD student or postdoc drowning in bioinformatics analysis, I’d love to help—no strings attached except for co-authorship (middle author is fine!).

For those wondering about credentials, I hold an offer to start my BSc Natural Sciences (Biochemistry specialisation) at King’s College London this September (QS 2025: 40th best in the world, 12th for Life Sciences). I’m happy to provide proof of my offer if needed. Over the past year, I’ve gained extensive hands-on experience in transcriptomics, single-cell analysis, and machine learning (see my original post for details).

If that sounds good to you and you think I could be of help, feel free to reach out! You can message me here or email me at haziq.muhammad.iot@gmail.com—I’d love to chat and see how I can contribute.
