Course online: Assembling Genomes with Oxford Nanopore – A Hands-On Guide
Dates: 29 September – 3 October
Course website: https://www.physalia-courses.org/courses-workshops/course59/
This 5-day course introduces researchers to long-read genome assembly using Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT). Participants will learn how to process raw ONT data into fully assembled, polished, and quality-controlled genomes, with or without short-read data or a reference genome.
Who should attend:
Researchers interested in genome assembly and bioinformatics, from beginners to advanced users with basic command-line skills. Practical sessions will be tailored for different skill levels.
Learning outcomes:
- Understand the advantages and limitations of long-read sequencing
Learn all steps of genome assembly from basecalling to quality control
Gain hands-on experience with tools for microbial, viral, and mammalian datasets
Practical exercises will use model bacterial and viral datasets, guiding participants through a complete assembly workflow at their own pace.
