Hello everyone, I am currently learning bioinformatics and looking to build a small set of projects that I can showcase in my portfolio for entry-level roles. I have basic familiarity with NCBI databases, the Galaxy platform, command-line tools, and beginner-level Python/R.

Could you please suggest:

Beginner-friendly bioinformatics project ideas

Public datasets suitable for practice

Any tutorials, workflows, or repositories that help beginners build real, demonstrable projects

Recommended domains to start with (genomics, transcriptomics, sequence analysis, etc.)

My goal is to create 1–3 small but practical projects that reflect skills expected from an entry-level bioinformatician.

Any guidance or examples would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
