I completed my medical studies in Bergen, Norway in 2011 and took a PhD in Neurosurgery in 2012. I have since moved into cancer bioinformatics in my research, and am picking up skills as I go, while also working as a medical doctor on the side.

RNA-Seq: can one implicate viruses if unmapped reads map to virus sequences?
... This article seems to have an interesting approach; if I understand it correctly, they first map their human reads to the human genome, and then take the unmapped reads to find out whether they map to virus databases. If they do, then they seem to suggest that one could theorize that the virus could ...

Circos: can it be used with gene expression data and Orbitrap/Kinexus data?
... I've looking into using the circos plots that have recently become quite popular as I gather. ... The solution, as provided by Martin Morgan, was to make a version of shRNALibrary.txt where shRNALibrary$Label <- make.names(shRNALibrary$Label), due to a bug in the package. See more details here: https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/bioconductor/2013-November/056100.html The developers have been inf ...
