bowtie2-build error: Could not open index file for writing

I was running bowtie2-build and encountered the following error. Thanks for help!

bowtie2-build final.contigs.fa final.contigs

Input files DNA, FASTA:

final.contigs.fa

Building a SMALL index

Reading reference sizes

Could not open index file for writing: "final.contigs.3.bt2"

Please make sure the directory exists and that permissions allow writing by Bowtie.

Are your running this in a directory where you have write permission?

Yes I have write permission. I just figured out the reason. My disk is full. Thanks for help!

Srry Can somebody help me? My problem is in bowtie, i used ubuntu by subsystem of Linux in Windows10. Pls help me :C I was running bowtie-build genomes/NC_008253.fna e_coli_index

Hi, I had the same problem. Bowtie2-build cannot create the folder, I created it and ran again without problems 'bowtie2-build ref.fna foldercreate / xxname'
