Structural variation nomenclature ambiguity

Hi,

I have a general nomenclature query. As I am going through some structural variation papers, a lot of the papers use the word CNV, duplication and deletions separately. I understood that both duplication and deletions (>1000 bp) come under CNVs. I have also seen plots having the above SVs compared to each other. Is this correct? Or there is some other explainantion to this nomenclature difference?

Regards, Prasun

Without knowing the particularities of the paper, separating CNVs from duplications and/or deletions does not seem appropriate. I have no idea of when duplications/deletions would not be considered CNVs. Do you have a link to the article?
