Hi all, I need to install an old(er) version of star (2.6.0a). I'm using conda install star=2.6.0a and getting the following error:

PackagesNotFoundError: The following packages are not available from current channels:

  • star=2.6.0a

Current channels:

To search for alternate channels that may provide the conda package you're looking for, navigate to

https://anaconda.org

and use the search bar at the top of the page.

I searched for star 2.6.0a at anaconda.org and got no results. What additional channels could provide older versions of star? I'm somewhat new to conda, so I apologize in advance if this is a naive question. Any help would be much appreciated!

Seems that particular version has never existed on conda: https://anaconda.org/bioconda/star/files?sort=basename&sort_order=desc

Checking the release notes https://github.com/alexdobin/STAR/releases?page=3 indicates that after only 9 days they pushed a minor version 2.6.0b to fix some things so it can well be that these had been added to conda and the a version never made it. You can use 2.6.0b or c from conda, or use the binary from GitHub if you really need the a version.
