At Natera, our goal is to make personalized genomics and medicine a reality at scale. As a Research Associate II, you will be part of a small, focused research team that is using cutting edge technology and science in order to build scalable, robust, and modular platforms upon which current and future products can be built. You will get to design, execute, and troubleshoot experiments under the guidance of, and in collaboration with, a tight-knit group of scientists and engineers.

We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about understanding the nuts and bolts of how assays work, relentless about optimizing their experiments, and most of all is excited about being at the forefront of clinical sequencing and having their work used in the clinical care of millions of patients.

The Research Associate II performs R&D experiments in collaboration with other research and development personnel. They are responsible for performing scientific experiments, making detailed observations and interpretations of results, performing lab managerial duties and working cross-functionally with scientific, clinical, and technical teams to support product development. They are able to be self-directed and can work well in an exciting fast paced environment.

Primary Responsibilities Design and execute experiments in the lab using a variety of molecular biology and general laboratory techniques. Operate different types of Next-Generation Sequencing Instruments. Purify DNA, RNA from plasma, buffy coats. Analyze experimental data, derive conclusions, and discuss results with a multidisciplinary team including biologists, bioinformaticians, statisticians, software engineers and managers. Maintain a detailed and organized lab notebook. Contribute insight toward experimental findings and troubleshoot laboratory processes and protocols. Help invent new products, and integrate product improvements to somatic and germline applications.

Qualifications BS/BA in a biological science or equivalent. 3 years of Molecular Biology laboratory experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Hands-on experience with nucleic acid techniques (DNA manipulation, DNA isolation, PCR, qPCR). Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities. Effective communication skills, including gathering information from different teams, communicating with suppliers, writing protocols, and summarizing results in a report or presentation. Familiarity with Microsoft Office (or equivalent) suite of programs, especially Word and Excel applications. Self-driven and strong team player with a proven track record.

Nice To Have Experience with PCR library preparation for next generation sequencing and sequencing platforms. Experience with laboratory robotics platforms.
