normalize.quantiles in preprocessCore package with data containing missing values

Hi, All.

I now want to perform normalization on data with missing values.
I have researched and found out that normalize.quantiles() in the preprocessCore package can be performed on data with missing values.
However, I do not fully understand how to calculate it.

When normalize.quantiles() is run, are the missing values ignored and the quartiles calculated column by column?
And then normalization is performed based on those values?

I would like to know the calculation process.
