I am beginner bioinformatician at Ukrainian university. Our department has an idea to create a national genetic database, as we recently started provide WGS for healthy people. So we have anonymized clinical data and fastq and vcf outputs. Our university has plans to create a database similar to the uk biobank. I would really like to do an internship or training course where I could learn the basics of databases for whole genome data. Tell me, please, where I can find training cycles, internships, etc.?
It's not just databases. It's IT infrastructure, security routines, backup plans, storage/hardware, reproducible processing and workflows, legal considerations, finances. After all, we're talking about Petabytes of data at some point. This is an endeavor beyond online courses and communities. Your PI should reach out to the UK Biobank or similar established institutions and ask for a collaboration and the option for internships there.
