I’m working with microRNAs and insect genomes to predict gene targets. So far, I’ve used miRanda and RNAhybrid, but I’d like to add three more bioinformatics tools to my analysis. One of the tools I’m trying to use is PITA, but I’m having trouble installing it and can’t find clear instructions on the official website. I’m also trying to understand how to use PicTar, but I’m not sure how to adapt it to my system or what the exact installation protocol is. I have this website but it is not clear to me: https://www.mdc-berlin.de/n-rajewsky#t-data,software&resources. I am using a macbook.. Has anyone here successfully installed and run PITA or PicTar recently? What operating system did you use?

Are there any updated guides or scripts you can recommend?

Any tips for getting them running smoothly? Or someone used who can help me? Thanks in advance for any advice!
