PCR annealing analysis

I was wondering if theoretically we have a long DNA template that has to be amplified and, for instance, add an incorrect primer that has the same directionality as the template (5'->3'), but is complementary to the strand, will it anneal? I understand that it won't be amplified, but purely from biochemical/ biophysical standpoint annealing should occur, since the complementarity is primarily defined by the base paring?

Hi,

I'm not sure the question pertains to bioinformatics. We're a community of less wet bench specialists, more biological data scientists.
