Blast implementation details help

I find it hard to find a good explanation of how blast works. All the documentation from the ncbi seems to be described in a more abstract way.

Is there any source or reference where I could find an in depth explanation of how the algorithm works and the design of the data structures?

For example a video lecture explaining it, documentation or just a simple blast with just the basic implementation.

Thanks for the answer, but I was thinking of something more comprehensive in terms of definitions of data structures and technical details.
