Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research, Inc. (NIBR) is seeking a highly motivated senior group leader to join NIBR Oncology Bioinformatics and lead our scientific engineering groups. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in developing intuitive scientific software to enable cancer research and early clinical development as well as demonstrated leadership, project management, collaboration, and communication skills.
Responsibilities will include:
- Leading a team of experienced software developers
- Driving and influencing the technical and scientific direction of NIBR Oncology Bioinformatics by serving on the global bioinformatics leadership team
- Managing and prioritizing the oncology informatics portfolio
- Serving as main interface with key stakeholders within Novartis Oncology and across Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) including NIBR Informatics to develop software solutions that enable scientific analyses, drug discovery, and early clinical development
- Overseeing the design, planning, implementing, and maintaining of biological data processing and visualization systems
- Overseeing the design, planning, implementing, and maintaining scientific software systems enabling early clinical development
- Instilling a culture of best practices in the development and operation of software systems
Requirements:
- Masters or Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computer science or a related field, with a minimum of 5-10 years of management and leadership experience
- Proven track record leading the development and deployment of bioinformatics systems and applications that are integral to research, drug discovery, and clinical development
- Development of software solutions for research oncology or clinical oncology
- Demonstrated ability in establishing effective collaborative relationships with cross functional technical teams
- Strong communication skills and ability to represent the group to NIBR Informatics and within NIBR
- Demonstrated organizational skills, aligning available resources to meet key goals
- Knowledge of cancer genomics and/or tumor immunology. Experience with genomic data and/or NGS data preferred
