Computational Biologist Post-doctoral position
The Sfeir lab (http://www.sfeirlab.com/) in collaboration with the NYU Applied Bioinformatics Center (http://www.med.nyu.edu/ocs/applied-bioinformatics-center) directed by Dr. Tsirigos (http://tsirigos.com/) is seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual to work on challenging research ideas related to DNA repair mechanisms and telomere function.
Responsibilities
- Analyze public and in-house ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, DNA-seq data
- Work closely with biologists on both hypothesis-driven and data-driven projects
- Leverage sequencing data to generate new insights using computational methods
- Develop novel computational methods and pipelines
- Write manuscripts
Required skills
- Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science or related disciplines
- 3+ years of experience with Illumina sequencing data
- 3+ years of experience creating customized sequencing analysis pipelines
- 3+ years of experience in Unix/Linux systems including HPC environments
- 3+ years of experience in applying statistical/computational learning techniques
- Scripting languages: Python or Perl
- Statistical packages: R (preferred) or Matlab
- Excellent communication skills with proficiency in written and oral English
