Computational Biologist Post-doctoral position

The Sfeir lab ( in collaboration with the NYU Applied Bioinformatics Center ( directed by Dr. Tsirigos ( is seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual to work on challenging research ideas related to DNA repair mechanisms and telomere function.


  • Analyze public and in-house ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, DNA-seq data
  • Work closely with biologists on both hypothesis-driven and data-driven projects
  • Leverage sequencing data to generate new insights using computational methods
  • Develop novel computational methods and pipelines
  • Write manuscripts

Required skills

  • Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science or related disciplines
  • 3+ years of experience with Illumina sequencing data
  • 3+ years of experience creating customized sequencing analysis pipelines
  • 3+ years of experience in Unix/Linux systems including HPC environments
  • 3+ years of experience in applying statistical/computational learning techniques
  • Scripting languages: Python or Perl
  • Statistical packages: R (preferred) or Matlab
  • Excellent communication skills with proficiency in written and oral English
