Hi,

I am confused about the position numbers. From ftp://ftp-trace.ncbi.nih.gov/1000genomes/ftp/release/20130502/ I downloaded ALL.chr17.phase3_shapeit2_mvncall_integrated_v5a.20130502.genotypes and printed the beginning of the file, which looks like this:

CHROM POS ID REF ALT QUAL FILTER
17 52 rs556541063 C A 100 PASS

17 56 rs145615430 C T 100 PASS

17 78 rs148170422 G C 100 PASS

17 80 rs183779916 G A 100 PASS

Are the reference numbers unique for each positions?

Thanks for the help

Assuming you mean the rs numbers with 'reference numbers' (e.g. rs556541063), those are dbSNP id's, (see also http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/projects/SNP/snp_ref.cgi?rs=556541063). Theoretically, these should be unique.

Hi,

Yes, I was referring to the numbers starting with rs. Thanks for the helpful answer.
