Two postdoc positions are available in the Bioinformatics group at the Joint School of Life Sciences (Guangzhou Medical University and Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health - Chinese Academy of Sciences), in Guangzhou, China.

Guangzhou (Canton) is the largest city of southern China and, together with the nearby cities of Hong Kong and Shenzhen, has become one of the most important hubs of academic and technological development in the world. Guangzhou Medical University (GMU) is a young university formed by 16 schools in two campuses and 8 affiliated hospitals, while The Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health (GIBH) are a group of scientific institutes with state-of-the-art technology established by the Chinese Academy of Sciences at the Science Park in Guangzhou. The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) is the leading institution in the world for high-quality science according to the Nature Index.

Description

Our group focuses on the generation of methods and software tools for the reconstruction of disease mechanisms, both at the genome level and the proteome/pathway level. In addition, we also provide bioinformatics support to other groups and projects.

The first postdoc will work on analysis and integration of multiple genomics and epigenomics datasets, especially aiming to predict the most probable etiology of specific diseases.

The second postdoc will work on pathway analysis, and methods for predicting the functional role for both protein-coding and cis-regulatory regions under different biological settings.

Place of work

The place of work will be the Panyu campus of Guangzhou Medical University. This is a new and modern campus located at Panyu district in Guangzhou.

Duration

The duration is 2 years.

Qualifications

Candidates for the postdoctoral positions must hold a Ph.D. degree in biomedical sciences, computer science, or statistics, with experience in the following areas:

  • Bioinformatics or computational biology
  • Programming in Python or R

A good command of the English language is also required, as the working language will be English.

Salary and other benefits

Basic salary can be from 200,000 to 240,000 RMB (29,200 - 35,000 USD) per year, depending on skills and achievements. Free accommodation in the university dormitories may also be possible. Chinese language courses can be arranged for non-chinese speakers.

The post-doctorates from GMU have priority for being employed by the university or its affiliated hospitals after successfully finishing their post-doctoral term.
