Unravelling data

Do you want to work in a research environment, are you interested in plant biology and are you capable of building relationships on different levels through the organisation in order to analyse business needs? As a bioinformatician you will join our research team and develop healthy, innovative vegetable varieties in a sustainable way.

What are you going to do?

As bioinformatician you will be part of the Biotechnology Research department which performs a wide range of research requiring you to work in close collaboration with molecular biologists. This research generates vast amounts of data, ready to be analysed. The goal of this analysis is to facilitate the breeding process by finding leads which will enable the breeders to create the best vegetable varieties.

You will mainly work on data analysis with focus on next-generation sequencing data. This includes development of analysis pipelines, including user interfaces and databases, data visualisation and optimising in-house developed algorithms and workflows.

Department

The Biotechnology Research department consists of about 30 persons and supports the breeding process. As part of an interdisciplinary team composed of molecular biologists, biochemists and bioinformaticians, you are also expected to assist and support your colleagues in bioinformatics-related issues.

Your power

You are familiar with software development and data analysis. You have the drive to dig into complex data-sets and the ability to continue until you have found the answers you are looking for. You keep looking for new possibilities and you share your ideas with the team. Furthermore you have excellent communication skills and are a strong team player.

To make this function a success you'll need the following requirements:

  • BSc or MSc degree in bioinformatics, computer science or data analysis related field.
  • Confident in the scripting language Perl (or other language and willingness to learn Perl)
  • Above average Linux skills
  • Knowledge of distributed source code version control system, e.g. git or mercurial
  • Interested in plant biology
  • Fluent in English

Proficiency in high performance computing and sequence data analysis is highly desirable. Basic database knowledge (SQL/NoSQL) and web application development (Perl Mojolicious, Python flask or similar) are a plus.

Our power

We are an independent vegetable seed company, breeding, producing and marketing our varieties all over the world. There's a good chance that you'll find our tomatoes, cucumbers, sweet peppers, lettuce or other vegetables on your plate, no matter where you are.

We are a company with a supportive, energetic culture. As an employee of Enza Zaden, you'll have more than 1800 colleagues of 40 nationalities worldwide. Strong team players with an entrepreneurial spirit who easily take responsibilities is exactly what we like to see in our employees here at Enza Zaden. Are you going to join us?
