I wanted to know which kit the scientific community will prefer .
I am not 100% satisfied with everything that 23andMe does, but I would tend to recommend them for people aren't able to analyze their own raw data (although they provide you with some genotypes that you can re-analyze).
There are also some free options for learning more about genomics, but I am not sure if they are the best fit for you:
1) Genes for Good - free SNP chip data with limited interpretation from the University of Michigan
2) All of Us - a program sponsored by the NIH. If selected for Biospecimen collection, you get a free gift card. However, everybody isn't selected for free sequencing (for example, I don't have any of that sequencing data)
