Multiple postdoctoral fellow positions are available at Dr. Kong’s group in the Computational Health Informatics Program (CHIP, http://www.chip.org) at Boston Children’s Hospital, Boston, MA, USA (www.childrenshospital.org). The successful candidates will work on projects involving human iPSCs to improve clinical practices based on genomic data analysis from patients with Parkinson’s disease. The positions are available for highly motivated and skilled individuals with expertise in next-generation sequencing (NGS) analysis to work at the forefront of the neurodevelopmental and genomics research.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop novel computational and bioinformatic tools for genomic analysis of patient samples.
  • Analysis of genomic datasets and identification of deleterious variants from human iPSCs.
  • Evaluate safety and stability of human iPSCs and draft a summary report.
  • Cross-training bioinformatic colleagues.
  • Present the work in form of scientific publications and oral communications to the scientific community.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Strong proficiency with R and python programming languages.
  • Familiarity with various resources on pathogenic human variants (e.g., HGMD, ClinVar, COSMIC, PCAWG, …) is required.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to effectively translate scientific concepts to multi-disciplinary personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop analysis schemes for whole genome sequencing (WGS) and RNASeq.
  • Deep understanding of genomics and molecular biology.
  • Highly proficient in spoken and written English and scientific writing skills.
  • Work independently on multiple ongoing projects with flexibility to adjust to new priorities.
  • Experience with human iPSC data is desired.

The candidates must hold a Ph.D. title by the start of employment.

The group is located at the Boston Children’s Hospital, a teaching hospital affiliated with Harvard University. Interested applicants should send a cover letter outlining research experience and interests, curriculum vitae (CV), and the names and contacts of three referees to Dr. Sek Won Kong (sekwon.kong@childrens.harvard.edu).
