Is it possible to infer tumor purity from tumor-specific Variant Allele Fraction (VAF)?

Is it possible to infer sample's tumor purity form the distribution of its tumor-specific VAFs alone?

Sorry for the lack of prior information, but I was told, from an expert on tumor genome analysis, that it is indeed plausible.

Only if your tumor is far from 100% purity (say, 90%). Otherwise it is not really reliable.
