We are seeking to recruit a scientist with experience in molecular biology with a PhD (or MD) in medical sciences, human biology, molecular biology, medicine, molecular medicine or similar fields. The candidate will be involved in planning, execution and coordination of various projects in the field of genetic epidemiology of complex diseases. An understanding and experience in functional studies is of major advantage. It is required that the applicant speaks German since an involvement in teaching courses at the university belongs to the duties.

Our primary research topic is the investigation of genetic risk factors for cardiovascular disease with a focus on intermediate phenotypes as well as other complex diseases including disturbances of the lipoprotein metabolism. We are applying methods of genetic and clinical association studies and we are involved in genome-wide association studies of various phenotypes. We are embedded in a well-functioning international network of collaborations which allows an effective investigation of research questions. A well-equipped sequencing and genotyping unit is affiliated to our Division which permits an immediate response to requirements in various projects. For a detailed information on our Division and Genotyping Unit please visit our website (http://www.i-med.ac.at/genepi/).

We are looking forward to a highly motivated colleague who will be able to develop also own projects fitting to our scientific "environment". Since coworkers and collaborative partners have to be consulted, communicative skills and the ability for teamwork are required. However, the candidate should be also able to work relatively independently. It is expected that the appointee writes grant applications and scientific articles.

We are offering a research associate position in a highly motivated and productive young team. Our institute includes a molecular biology branch with sequencing and genotyping possibilities, a protein-chemistry branch including a cell culture lab and a statistics and informatics branch. Several additional research units working in the area of genetics and genomics are located on the campus. The applicant is expected to work in the molecular biology branch of our institute and should supervise projects in that area with the possibility to perform also functional studies related to genetic variants.

Please send any inquiry concerning the position or your informal application including a curriculum vitae and a short description of research and analysis experience to Prof. Florian Kronenberg, e mail: Florian.Kronenberg@i-med.ac.at.
