I was a postdoc on the Gene Expression database at Jax years ago, and Bar Harbor is a great place to be. The winters are a little long..but the summers are worth it.
This just came across the mouse mailing list, thought I'd pass it along.
SOFTWARE ENGINEER I / SOFTWARE ENGINEER II
The Mouse Genome Informatics Group at The Jackson Laboratory has openings for two full time entry- or intermediate-level scientific software engineers. You will join an interdisciplinary project at the forefront of bioinformatics resources, which provides comprehensive, high-quality, integrated information on the laboratory mouse to the worldwide biomedical research community. Applicants must be energetic, imaginative, and ready to participate in a highly interactive environment combining biology and software engineering.
One position will focus primarily on release engineering: automating continuous integration builds, releases, and other back end processes. The second position will join an existing Scrum team and work on a variety of database back end and web front end projects.
The Jackson Laboratory is one of the world's foremost centers for mammalian genetics research. Located in Bar Harbor, Maine, the lab is adjacent to Acadia National Park. Mountains, ocean, forests, lakes, and trails are all within walking distance. If you love high tech challenges but you're looking for a more natural environment, this could be the opportunity you've been searching for.
Interested individuals should apply to www.jax.org/careers. Please provide a cover letter and resume.
