NUFFIELD DEPARTMENT OF ORTHOPAEDICS, RHEUMATOLOGY AND MUSCULOSKELETAL SCIENCES (NDORMS)

Postdoctoral Research Associate in Computational Biology (155071)

Grade 8: £42,149 - £50,296 per annum

The Kennedy Institute at the University of Oxford has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated computational scientist to take up a joint appointment in the groups of Professors Fiona Powrie, Chris Buckley and Associate Professor Stephen Sansom (https://www.kennedy.ox.ac.uk). We are looking for a talented researcher to join our team and help lead interdisciplinary systems biology investigations of the cellular and molecular causes of immune-mediated inflammatory diseases and cancer. The work will involve the analysis and interpretation of large scale datasets from patient cohorts and state-of-the-art single-cell and spatial genomics experiments. Findings will be prioritised, validated and mechanistically tested in close partnership with wet-lab and clinical colleagues. In the course of this work, you will have the opportunity to develop novel computational methods and to work alongside our clinical collaborators to help translate discoveries into the clinic. The successful applicant will participate in national (Research into Inflammatory Arthritis Center https://race-gbn.org/) and international research consortiums, including the Human Cell Atlas project (https://www.humancellatlas.org/).

You should have a top-tier publication record that demonstrates experience with the statistical analysis and interpretation of complex genomics datasets, along with excellent coding skills and problem-solving abilities. A PhD/DPhil (or near completion) in a discipline directly relevant to computational genomics research is essential. In this role, you will perform scientific research, review and refine working hypotheses and acquire relevant skills as necessary. You will analyse and interpret data, preparing and publishing your findings in peer-reviewed journals. The work will involve helping to create and maintain computational workflows and methods for single-cell data analysis and helping to train colleagues. The successful applicant will be based at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology within the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences.

Please read the accompanying job description carefully and ensure that you address each selection criteria in a supporting statement which must be uploaded together with your CV when applying online.

This is a fixed-term, full-time position for 3 years.

Due to the nature of the research at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, this job will require additional security pre-employment checks:

• A satisfactory basic Disclosure and Barring Service check

The closing date for this position is 12 noon on 17 January 2022. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application.
