hello everyone, I am trying to run Bowtie2 on my mac 2017 with macOS monterey. But I keep getting the following error when I try to open the application: sh: /Applications/bowtie2-2.4.5-macos-arm64/bowtie2-align-s: Bad CPU type in executable

I already set Zsh as the default shell. And it seems i am not able to download Rosetta2 on my computer. Any suggestions?

Since you have a Mac from 2017 it contains an Intel CPU and not an ARM one like the current M* models. Use this version instead of the one you installed (which you should replace or remove) : https://sourceforge.net/projects/bowtie-bio/files/bowtie2/2.4.5/bowtie2-2.4.5-macos-x86_64.zip/download

That said you are better off using conda to install informatics programs. See first part to install with conda: Creating workflows with snakemake and conda
