RnBeads mean difference vs M-values

Hello all,

Please excuse if this is a beginner question.

Could anyone advise as to how to interpret differential methylation analysis results from RnBeads? I see they calculate a mean-mean difference for each site, but when I review other papers the statistics are reported in terms of an M-value.

Does anyone have any insight into this?

Thanks!

M-value is log2(beta/(1 - beta)). M-values are usually used to perform statistical calculations because they are homoscedastic, contrary to beta values which are intended to visualization.
