I started getting interested in genomic bioinformatics a few weeks ago and I already have a lot of questions. One of them is about databases. Can I download genes from these databases to carry out research? If this is possible, which databases do you use?

I am not sure what you mean by 'downloading genes,' but there are many resources you can use to explore genes. I personally like to use Ensembl. NCBI is an excellent resource for both gene and protein data and sequences (NCBI). For protein data, I extensively use UniProt. Finally, if you are looking for a reference genome to do bioinformatics (local blast, read alignment, variant calling, etc.) I typically get mine from UCSC (UCSC-hgdownloads). Good luck!
