Hello BioStars community,
When preparing figures for publication or presentation, I often find myself needing inspiration for how to best display complex biological data. This usually involves a time-consuming search through papers to find high-quality examples of specific plots like volcano plots, complex heatmaps, or UMAPs.
To streamline this process, I developed Plottie.art, a free web-based tool designed to serve as a comprehensive resource for scientific visualization. The site is a searchable library containing over 100k figures curated from open-access literature.
Key Features:
- Search by Keyword: Look for specific plot types or techniques.
- Direct Source Linking: Each plot is linked directly back to its source publication, allowing you to examine the scientific context and corresponding methods.
Discover Similar Plots: An option to find visually similar figures to one you are viewing.
No Login Required: The tool is entirely browser-based and free to use.
I am sharing this with the community in the hope that it will be a useful resource for students and researchers. I welcome any feedback on its utility, suggestions for additional plot types to feature, or ideas for improving its relevance for the bioinformatics community.
You can access the tool here: plottie.art
I hope you find it useful.
ok this is actually very cool. good job
How did you manage the plot extraction? This is indeed very useful.
I trained a model using yolo.
This is interesting, but sorry, I don't think the results are better than in Google Images.
