Respected Member,

I am a research scholar in India. I want to work with NGS data but as I am a research scholar not possible for me to go for wet lab data generation.

What if I re-analyse data already published data submitted in NCBI SRA .... will it be acceptable for publication in paper and what if I Convert SRA to fastq to vcf of the same published file for population genetics study, can I publish it.

Please do suggest.

Thanks in advance

you pose the question the wrong way - it is not about re-analyzing it - it is about discovering something new that other scientists agree that is worth publishing. When you re-analyze data the bar is a little bit higher as you need to demonstrate more added value.

If you can add value to the data, it's certainly publishable. Many people publish based on algorithms and other items related to already published datasets. Take the TCGA dataset, for example. There have been many publications based on analyzing these datasets, by others, not just the people that uploaded the data.
