PhD position in Bioinformatics and Systems Biology
There is a vacancy for a PhD position at the Department of Informatics (www.uib.no/en/ii) within bioinformatics. The position is for a fixed term period of 4 years and is affiliated with the national research school in bioinformatics and biostatistics, www.norbis.no.
About the project/work tasks
The Department is ranked first in Norway with respect to the quality of its research, by the Research Council of Norway. The successful candidate will be working in the field of bioinformatics and systems biology in the Jonassen group at the Computational Biology Unit (CBU), http://www.uib.no/en/cbu.
The position is connected to the "Digital Life" program supported by the Research Council of Norway. The program aims to build and support trans-disciplinary life science research projects including molecular biology, bioinformatics, and mathematical modeling techniques. The candidate will work with development and application of bioinformatics and systems biology methods in context of projects involving collaboration with biological and medical research groups, including the Sea Lice Research Centre, www.slrc.no. In collaboration with mathematical groups, novel data analysis and modeling approaches will be explored.
We are seeking a candidate with a strong computational background. The candidate will use and develop state-of-the-art bioinformatics and systems biology methods integrating a range of different data sources to model chosen biological systems on a molecular level, and make predictions that can be tested experimentally by collaborating groups. When appropriate, software will be integrated with the Norwegian e-infrastructure for Life Science (NeLS) linked with the Norwegian Elixir Node, coordinated from the CBU.
