Hello, I am working in lab, where we are processing NGS data for research use only. Now we are thinking about purchasing HGMD professional license (downloadable database to incorporate into annovar). I would like to ask you about your opinion if it is worthy to buy expensive license. If it brings so much value added compared to free ClinVar or some other dbs.

Thanks for your opinions.

In my experience, it is quite great, especially for literature references (it is manually curated), but it is not 100% perfect. I've found a bunch of errors in there, tiny issues that slip through the cracks with the various notations used by scientists all over the place and the ever changing HGVS nomenclature standards.

HGMD professional does not come with command line/SQL access at the lowest pro level, just so you know.

You would most certainly need to decide if it is worth the purchase for you. Generally trial licenses/access is available so you should try it out yourself before you buy.

I have a hunch you have tried it (and like it) and are trying to justify the purchase :-)
