Trapezoids

Do you remember what a parallelogram is? 🤔

👉 It is a** quadrilatera**l with two pairs of opposite sides that are** parallel**.

There is another type of quadrilateral with only one set of parallel sides. It's called a **trapezoid**!

Atrapezoidis a quadrilateral with only one pair of parallel sides.

How can we figure out if an image is a trapezoid? 🤔

We can trace the opposite sides and see if they intersect at any point!

Let’s try to test this figure:

First, let’s trace over the top and bottom sides. These lines are opposite.

We see that they will **never** touch!

We have one pair of parallel sides.

Now, let’s trace over the left and right sides.

Do you see how they intersect at a certain point?

This shape has **only one pair** of parallel lines.

This is a trapezoid! ✅

Let’s look at another shape:

The top and bottom lines are parallel.

The left and right lines are parallel.

There are **more than one pair** of parallel lines in this shape.

This shape is **not** a trapezoid. ❎

Let's try one more shape.

Is this shape a trapezoid?

Yes! Only the top and bottom are parallel. The left and right are not parallel to each other!

This shape is a trapezoid. ✅

What about this one?

The top and bottom lines are parallel. The left and right sides are also parallel.

This is **not** a trapezoid. ❎

Great job! Now, you know how to identify a trapezoid.

💪 Now, you can move on to practice!
